Being a “Digital Nomad” in a Greek villa

The term “Digital Nomad” dates back to 1997 when the authors Tsugio Makimoto and David Manners, published a book with the title “Digital Nomad”. The book tried to explain how the upcoming technologies along with the urge of people to travel will make remote work more feasible in the future.

Nowadays and due to the pandemic outbreak, this term is more relevant than ever. Distance working is turning into a lifestyle movement, with freelancers, entrepreneurs and self-employed people making up the majority of the Digital Nomad Crowd. In the meantime, all the big companies have been forced to let their employees working from home, with 77% of them saying that they are more productive, because they can create a more flexible schedule.

According to Global workplace analytics, 25% – 30% of the workforce will be working remotely from home by the end of 2021. But in that case people must face with another challenge, loneliness.

The question though is whether remote work means only working from home? Definitely not. People have now the opportunity to travel with their family or friends, combining work with vacation. Also, executives can plan brainstorming weeks in Greek villas. Exploiting the nice weather, it can be a great opportunity to boost their productivity and create a stronger bond with their co-workers.

Leo the collection offers a portfolio of high-end villas, some of which offer all the necessary amenities for people who want to work during their vacation. Renting a luxury villa via Leo the collection covers all the security and safety concerns that someone may have.

Stay home planning your next vacations

No doubt the beginning of 2020 has not been exactly what people worldwide have been expecting or hoped for.

The COVID-19 outbreak took us by surprise and had so far a severe impact on many sides of our lives including travelling and exploring holiday destinations across the world.

Many of us have already cancelled or rescheduled our vacations, while others are still on hold regarding their holiday plans.  But as Socrates said ” The seeking of happiness, is not found on seeking more, but in developing the capacity to enjoy less”.

Although uncertainty is now lying in every single aspect of our life, we still have to find the strength and the positive energy to dream, to look forward to better and carefree days with our loved ones. We can look at the current reality on a different angle, but still focus on the things that matter and give us great pleasure, such as travelling and sharing unique moments with our family and friends.

That is not a privilege, it is our undisputed right to happiness.

Thus, we must keep talking about travel with our friends and family, planning the next escape after everything is over. The reason is that making future travel plans gives us hope and let us dream. And this is all we need at the moment.

Right now we fight to protect this right of ours and very soon life will go back to normal.

So stay home, stay safe and keep in mind that the time that you will enjoy a cocktail on a sandy beach is not far away.

Instead, you can prepare yourselves for an adventure on the island. What could be better than passing through Samaria Gorge, which is the longest canyon in Europe. Also, the adrenaline lovers could try bungee jumping at the popular gorge of Aradena.

Not to mention that during April, the people in Crete celebrate Easter. That means, that as a traveller on the island you will have the chance to experience all the traditional celebrations. Do not forget to try the lamb that Cretan people roast on a spit on Easter’s day. It will definitely be a memorable experience.

Cretan Diet: The healthiest nutritional model on the planet

Crete is the birthplace of what nowadays the whole world refers to as the Mediterranean Diet, an extremely healthy eating plan.

The island is blessed, as it consists of a vast number of olive trees (30-40 million).
The local people have managed to grow a remarkable culinary tradition, as their diet has been depended almost exclusively on the local agriculture production.

Don’t miss popular Cretan dishes as  Fried Snails, “Hortopita” (prepared using a combination of wild greens), Dakos (Cretan salad), “Apakia” (smoked pork), “Antikristo” (lamb cooked in a special way), “Sfakiani pita” (fried pie with salty cheese and honey on top) and of course “Tsikoudia” the Cretan brandy.

The Cretan Diet is not what just people eat but the way they live their lives and cultivate and this is what we invite you to discover in Crete.
